Product Description
Nutricio was a venture into making the process of eating healthier, easier and cheaper. I created an algorithm that would consider multiple factors into your food choices and diet preferences to provide you a list of groceries based on what was on sale at your local grocery store.
Highlights
Nutricio used a number of factors to calculate a recommended shopping list and intake based on factors the user would provide:
- Number of people you are shopping for
- What is your lifestyle goal?
- Lose weight
- Build muscle
- Maintain health
- Current diet plan
- Food Allergies
- Ethnic style preference
- Number of meals cooked at home
- Zip Code
Rewards were also given out to users who would log their grocery receipts to track the process of a user through their journey
Why, Nutricio?
During my time running Crisp! Mobile Grocery, I spent some time with the most impoverished citizens of the great city of Chicago. I also spent time with some of the most wealthy while actively looking for funding. What I came to the conclusion was, that nutrition was hard for everyone. Rich, poor and every person and family in between. Delivering to “food deserts” won’t solve the problem, and education is time intensive and has to be committed by the end user. So what is the solution?
I started experimenting with taking the hundred thousand items in the grocery store and personalizing it just for myself. I worked with some registered dietitians and the American Heart Association in my former position so I had experts that were willing to share advice and information. I started to build the calculation that would work for everyone. For the mother with kids that told me she wants her kids to eat healthily but she doesn’t know how. For the professional who is too busy to research what they are consuming. For anyone that wanted to eat better and not be intimidated by the process.
So I was lucky enough to meet a smart and savvy investor who saw the potential in me and the idea. We put together a company, built the algorithm and designed the platform. We were so busy we had to pick a name on the fly. After much debate and copyright blockage, we decided on Nutricio. (Which is Catalan for nutrition. Thank you Google Translate.)
